Computational Science & Engineering The purpose of the CSE group is threefold: work with the other groups to engineer quality simulation codes, 2. develop an integrated simulation that models all aspects of the experiment, and 3. create an uncertainty quantification pipeline that effectively utilizes available resources at Caltech and the NNSA Labs. Basic software engineering procedures are useful for producing reliable code but are not commonly known to students in engineering and science. CACR will work with the other groups to ensure that codes are scalable, have formal testing procedures, and use the best coding practices. The various simulation codes will be integrated using a lightweight python framework to model all of the physics at all necessary time scales. The development of a general UQ pipeline that uses the integrated codes to rigorously explore state space on the most advanced computers is an exciting part of the effort. We will also utilize novel computer architectures, as appropriate, to accelerate these extensive computations. The CSE group is part of Caltech's Center for Advanced Computing Research.
